Returning to Venture Lane: Implementing the Symptom Study App

Returning to Venture Lane: Implementing the Symptom Study App

The COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented and unlike any crisis we have had to face before. As part of the Massachusetts phase 1 reopening, Venture Lane will start a reduced physical operation on June 1st. We believe in staying ahead of the curve and want to come out of it as a team and community with our values intact.

Member safety and wellbeing are our first priority, and we rely on you all to use great judgment every single day. We trust our members to make the decisions that are best for them, their families, and the Venture Lane community. The single best thing you can all do to keep the community safe and healthy is to avoid entering the space if you are not feeling well. Because of this, we've decided to implement a mandatory daily check-in on the Symptom Study App for everyone choosing to work out of the space for the day.

Symptom Study App

The New York Times covered the Symptom Study App a few weeks: "Using a mathematical model, the researchers were able to predict with nearly 80 percent accuracy whether a person was likely to have Covid-19 based on their age, sex and a combination of four symptoms: loss of taste or smell, persistent cough, fatigue and loss of appetite."

We ask that you work from home if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: cold, cough, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, issues smelling / tasting, or persistent headaches. Please pay close attention to the loss of taste and smell: "Two-thirds of those who later tested positive for the virus — about 15,000 people — had self-reported the loss of taste and smell."

Health Declaration Form

Returning to the office takes a great deal of trust and accountability. Both in the staff at Venture Lane and in other members of the community. On top of the daily check-ins on the app, we also ask that all members sign our Health Declaration Form. We trust our members to make smart decisions for our community and ask that you commit to ensuring our space stays safe and healthy to the best of your knowledge by signing the declaration. When entering the space for the day, Venture Lane staff will verify that you've completed the Health Declaration Form (once), updated your status on the Symptom Study App (daily), had your temperature taken with a no-touch thermometer, and signed-in (members, too!) for virus tracking purposes.

We ask that you stay optimistic and realistic about the future. Please keep in mind that it will take a long time for the office landscape to go back to normal - both at Venture Lane and across the country. We will all need to stay agile, fluid, and ready for rapid change given the unknown path ahead. If there is anything we can do to help and support you, please do not hesitate to reach out.
